The Hot Sauce Did It
We have never been happier to spot a queue - we found The Halal Guys! This big "stay here (to eat)" foil bowl of biryani-like rice and meats (we got the mixed - chicken and lamb) is good for two Asian-sized appetites. It's packed with turmeric rice, a generous amount of shavings of barbecued lamb and chicken, lettuce and pita bread. Though not as fragrant as a dum biryani, it is the perfect base for the Sriracha-lookalike hot sauce. If you can take at least a bit of spice - this one lingers, gives a slow burn, and, like me, you won't be able to stop picking at it. It merely cost us $10, including two drinks.
P.S. The Halal Guys have just opened a restaurant on 14th at 2nd Ave.
